Building Accessibility Together

Building Accessibility Together (BAT) Working Group was established in 2003 to focus on creating greater awareness of and accessibility for queer people with disabilities within both the queer and disabilities communities. This is achieved through education, advocacy, and outreach.

Initiatives of BAT include:

  • Offering innovative and educational workshops that invite participants to examine their own beliefs and attitudes about “disability”, as well as explore the concerns and experiences of LGBT people living with chronic health conditions and/or disabilities
  • Working with Little Sisters Bookstore in Vancouver’s West End to designate one its parking spaces for people with disabilities

Producing Accessibility Matters pamphlet with information and resources on valuing queer people with chronic health conditions/disabilities

  • Collaborating with Vancouver Pride Society to make Pride Day and Festival more accessible to people with physical disabilities
  • Partnering with the Gay and Lesbian Business Association of Greater Vancouver to include information on wheelchair accessible venues in their annual business directory

BAT is co-facilitated by Education/Outreach and Generations. The BAT Working Group meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 2-4 p.m. at the Generations Office.
