* El-Tawhid Circle: Unity MosqueEl-Tawhid Circle: Unity Mosque

Time: 6:00 pm

El-Tawhid Circle: Vancouver Unity Mosque meets every Saturday at the Generations space (Suite 610 - 1033 Davie Street) at 6PM. El-Tawhid Circle Mosques are gender-equal, queer-friendly, and religiously non-discriminatory. In other words, all are welcome. Allah tells us in the Quran that the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) was a ‘mercy to the worlds’. ETJC Mosques are places of healing for everyone - for those who identify as Muslim, regardless of sect or tariqa. ETJC also welcomes those who do not identify as Muslim but need a space for healing, and those who are family, spouses/partners, friends, seekers and allies. ETJC begins with the understanding that women and men are equal agents of Allah in all aspects of ritual practice, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, race, class, dis/ability, HIV status, language, or any other grounds. Dr. Amina Wadud expounds this principle as horizontal reciprocity: we are all interchangeable, and only Allah is Akbar. Everyone is welcome to take a turn giving the call to prayer, giving the sermon, and leading the ritual prayer. Another pioneering imam, Nakia Jackson, describes this as ‘shared authority’. We all have authority and we all have something to teach and something to learn. We are NOT here to debate the equality of women in sacred space, or the issue of homosexuality or Transsexuality. Those who may be looking to ‘argue’ or debate these points must seek another forum to do so. Tawhid is often understood to refer to the Unity of Allah. However, for us it means also, the unity of humanity, Creation, Message and also unity between inner & outer of oneself. So that all can be authentic and true to Allah when we join in prayer. For more information on when the circle meets email: imtiaz.popat@yahoo.ca
