Thinking Queerly: Queer Salon

2010-07-12 - 2010-07-12

Time: 7:00 pm

Monday, July 12, 7pm, 610-1033 Davie
“With All of Who We Are”
OK, so we’re queer.
But that is never all of who we are.
How does your queerness connect with your race? Your (dis)ability status? Your religion or lack of it? Your class? What about your marital status? Your age??
• You are a white lesbian. Your best friend is a straight woman of colour. How do you deal with homophobia and racism in your friendship?
• Can a person be – at the same time – both oppressed and an oppressor?
o Do white gay men “oppress” because they share some of the privileges of being white and male while at the same time are white gay men “oppressed” because of their queerness?
• Are white women “oppressed” because of their vulnerability to rape while at the same time “oppressors” because they share the privileges of being white?
• Are you a ‘walks-between’ - someone with mixed race, or who is bisexual, or who identifies as neither/both genders?
