Development and Community Engagement Volunteer

Reporting to: Executive Director of QMUNITY

Relates to: Volunteer Coordinator, Program Manager, and Board of Directors

Position Outline:

  • Establish short- and long- range goals for unrestricted funding sources.
  • Strategise and orchestrate methods of approach to institutional donors.
  • Work with staff and Board to develop funding related projects.
  • With the Executive Director, ensure Board Members are aware of their vital role in fundraising and as donors
  • Organise individual donor campaigns (e.g., major donors, direct mail and board of trustees).
  • Organise solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Develop and implements a new high donor program
  • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy
  • Lead and manage, in collaboration with QMUNITY’s Executive Director, QMUNITY’s overall development efforts to raise approximately $ 50,000
  • Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors and individual donors
  • Manage QMUNITY’s Partner Sponsorship Program, which includes identifying and securing new Partner opportunities
  • Write Partner proposals to corporate, foundation, and key community stakeholders
  • Develop and grow QMUNITY’s individual donor base; manage annual giving campaigns; cultivate major gifts
  • Develop and manage a donor recognition campaign
  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy relative to development plans
  • Develop and manage QMUNITY’s Board fundraising capacity
  • Work in partnership with the City of Vancouver network to develop QMUNITY sponsors

General Purpose of the Job: Plan, direct and coordinate Development activities, major fundraising activities and special projects by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Regular duties include the following:

  1. Fundraising – Establish short and long range goals for unrestricted funding sources and enlists support of QMUNITY staff and clients. Strategise and orchestrate methods of approach to institutional donors. Research public and private grant sources (agencies, corporations and foundations) to identify sources of restricted and unrestricted funding. Work with program staff to develop funding related projects. Organise individual donor campaigns (e.g., major donors, direct mail and board of directors). Organise solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  2. Major Gift/Donor Support – Produce major donor, board and special category solicitations/support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible. Cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondences, preparing letters of acknowledgment, scheduling and attending in-person visits.
  3. Planned Giving Program – Track progress of pending Legacy and Bequest gifts. Fulfill requests, produce correspondences and encourage partial/early disbursement where appropriate.
  4. Database and Records Management – Coordinate activities of staff/volunteers engaged in maintaining electronic and paper records of contributors.
  5. Development & Public Relations – Coordinate most Development matters, particularly the creation of various communications such as general fundraising PowerPoint presentations and fundraising content for website.

Position Location: On Site at QMUNITY

Hours: 15+ hours per week

Prospect Research Volunteer

Reporting to: Executive Director of QMUNITY

Relates to: Volunteer Coordinator and Program Manager

Position Outline:

  • Research and identify prospective individuals, corporations and foundations as potential donors
  • Analyse and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to QMUNITY or the larger queer community (province wide)
  • Provide high-level research/information on individuals, corporations, and foundations for the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors engaged in donor relations Research and identify individuals as potential volunteers for leadership positions and as high donors

Position Location: Either On Site at QMUNITY or Home Office

Hours: 15+ hours per week
