April Volunteer of the Month: Stina Brown

Stina

This month we recognize Stina Brown for her support of, and dedication to QMUNITY. Stina first became involved with QMUNITY after meeting our own Dara Parker at Social Change Institute. Stina then reached out, wanting to know how she could get involved and support Dara's leadership. That was three years ago. To this day, Stina designs, runs and facilitates workshops for the QMUNITY team, helping them to reach their potential.   Stina moved to Vancouver from her home town in the South Okanagan, eight years ago. Stina helped start one of the first Gay Straight Alliances in the interior in 2004, which she attributes to a desire to support LGBTQ youth in a way that simply wasn't available to her. She wanted to provide a safe and positive space for queer and questioning youth, or other teens who just wanted to hang out and talk honestly about sex, family and life in general.

"Stina helped start one of the first Gay Straight Alliances in the interior in 2004."

She specializes in designing and leading multi dimensional events for groups to relate and collaborate. In her role with the Academy for Systemic Change, she is their "Artist in Residence", supporting retreats that help non profit leaders connect and learn with each other, and increase their ability to make positive change on a scale that matters. When not volunteering or working in her field,

Stina

enjoys being in nature, spending time with Hilary, playing with nieces and nephews and painting. She is the illustrator for 'The Day the Zoo Came to Visit', and is currently working on a book project based on her coming out journals. To learn more about
