Asexual Awareness Week
October 19th 2026, kicks off Asexual Awareness Week. This week is an international campaign to bring awareness to the wide variety of asexual identities and their place within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

What does the “A” stand for?
Ever wondered what the A in 2SLGBTQQIA+ stands for? The A represents the asexual community. Folks who identify as asexual or “Ace” for short, feel a lack or limited sexual attraction to those whom they are attracted to.
The Asexual Umbrella
Asexuality Awareness Week offers an opportunity to spotlight the diversity of asexuality.
According to the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization supporting the queer community, asexuality functions as an umbrella term. Identities like demisexual, grey-A, and queerplatonic fall under the asexual umbrella. A person can be romantically interested in others without experiencing sexual desires. Asexuality lives on a continuum and presents itself in an array of experiences.
It can look like:
A lack of interest in sex
A lack of physical attraction to others
Limited sexual interest in a romantic partner
Indifference to what others would find sexually appealing
The Flag
The asexual flag consists of four horizontal bands of different colours. The first band is black and represents asexuality. The second band is grey and represents grey-asexuality and demi-sexuality. The third band is white and represents non-asexual partners and allies. Lastly, the fourth band is purple and represents community.
