August Volunteer of the Month: Jarret M.

webDSC_0600

We would like to recognize Jarret M., one of our most dedicated Information and Referral Specialists, as August's Volunteer of the Month. Jarret's cheerfulness, resourcefulness and competency makes him an ideal front line to welcome new clients to the center, assist people in finding resources, and generally keep things running smoothly. He's been doing it for two whole years already! That's dedication… Jarret originally hales from Brookdale, in Manitoba, but moved to Winnipeg in 2002. He spent ten years out there before coming to Vancouver in 2012. Motivated by a desire for change, Jarret prefers the weather in Vancouver, and he can often be found out on the Sea Wall. Jarret first got involved with QMUNITY via an opportunity at work. As a financial adviser at RBC, he was given the chance to work with a not for profit society, and decided that QMUNITY was a perfect fit for him. He must have fallen in love with the place, because he immediately signed up for a regular shift on the front desk.

He loves the sheer range of people he gets to meet working at the center, and helping people with their different situations. He feels especially rewarded when helping parents who are reaching out for help to support their kids. He loves knowing that he's giving back to the community.

When he's not volunteering at the Q, Jarret also serves on a committee at Gordon Neighborhood house. Young Ideas has a mandate to provide accessible and fun social events for 20 & 30 somethings in the West End, to promote a sense of community. In his free time, Jarret loves to read, his favorite author being Chuck Palahniuk, and spending time at the gym. Thank you, Jarret, for your ingenuity, thoughtfulness and commitment to QMUNITY and to Vancouver.
