This year, International Family Equality Day falls on May 3rd, 2026.
Since 2012, International Family Equality Day has been celebrated on the first Sunday of May to highlight the diversity of families and specifically 2SLGBTQIA+ families globally.
Families are defined by love, commitment, and connection, not by structure and identity. Whether chosen, blended, adoptive, single parented, or multigenerational, all types of families deserve equal respect and protection. Today, QMUNITY stands with queer and trans families across Canada and worldwide, affirming that no family should face discrimination based on its form or the identities of its members.
In 2026, family equality still remains fragile or unrealized. For Indigenous, Black, and racialized members of our community and beyond, the pressures of this discrimination are compounded. We envision a future where all families are equally protected, recognized, and celebrated internationally without exception.
