On May 5th, we gather to remember and raise awareness of the ongoing crisis happening to Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit folks.
We have compiled a list of events across the province for folks to attend and participate in raising awareness for MMWIG (Missing, Murdered, Indigenous Women & Girls).
Events Happening May 5, 2026, for MMWIG
Duncan: A "Gone but Not Forgotten" 5k/10k walk/run at the Si’em Lelum Gymnasium starting at 9:00 am. More Info
Kamloops: A community gathering at Moccasin Square Garden (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) and a memorial walk from LMO to McDonald Park (4:00 pm – 7:00 pm). More Info
New Westminster: An official ceremony at Hyack Square hosted by the Spirit of the Children Society from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. More Info
Pitt Meadows: A remembrance ceremony at Spirit Square (11985 Harris Rd) starting at 1:00 pm. More Info
Courtenay: An awareness event at the Florence Filberg Centre from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, including a community walk. More Info
Fort St. John: An evening itinerary at Festival Plaza featuring a candlelight vigil and walk. More Info
Surrey (SFU): A "Lunch and Learn" presentation on Indigenous perspectives at the SFU Surrey Campus from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. More Info
SFU: Simon Fraser University (SFU) is hosting a memorial table and awareness station at each university. Tables will be hosted at each SFU campus between 12-2pm (Student Union Building, Burnaby Campus | Mezzanine, Surrey Campus | HC Lobby, Vancouver Campus)
They are also hosting a virtual Community Awareness & Development Opportunity from 1-2:30 PM More Info

Grandview Park Gathering: A community event at Grandview Park (1657 Charles St) from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. This gathering includes a sacred fire, big drum, and hot chili and bannock. Attendees are encouraged to wear red and bring their own drums. More Info
VPL Commemoration: The Vancouver Public Library provides curated resources and lists of Indigenous-authored literature and films to help the community learn about the crisis on this day of awareness. More Info
