National Coming Out Day
October 11th, 2026, is National Coming Out Day
Since 1988, National Coming Out Day has been celebrated on October 11th as an invitation for people within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to come out. At QMUNITY, we see the day as an opportunity to hold space for those anywhere along their coming out journey.
Coming Out Day celebrates being loud and proud about our queer identities and is also a time to recognize that the coming out process can be complicated for many reasons. Whether someone is in the beginning stages of discovering their identity, isn’t safe to come out to family, friends, or publicly, or is out to their loved ones and their community. Choosing to come out is a lifelong process; it doesn’t happen in one day or even one year. What “coming out” looks like can change depending on the identity of the person.
Coming out is a personal choice for every 2SLGBTQIA+ person. As a queer or trans person, no one is owed that information; it is yours to share when you feel safe and comfortable.
If it's your first time coming out, your 100th, or you are in the closet, no matter where you are in your journey, the community is here for you at QMUNITY.
If you are interested in resources, please check out our peer groups or reach out for counselling.
Happy Coming Out Day!
