Truth and Reconciliation Day, Orange Shirt Day 2026
Truth & Reconciliation Day is September 30th each year. This day is a day to engage with the Indigenous community, support their businesses, and learn from elders. We also encourage settlers to familiarize themselves with the 92 Calls to Action.
Below is a list of events happening across the province and online for TRC day as well as Indigenous organisations selling orange shirts to wear on the 30th.

Join this annual community event focused on Truth and Reconciliation. Learn about the history and impacts of Residential Schools through shared experiences that foster awareness, reflection, and understanding on the collective path forward. All are welcome.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Maple Ridge
All are welcome to attend the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event in Maple Ridge on Sunday, September 27th, co-hosted by Katzie First Nation with PLEA Community Services Society, Fraser River Indigenous Society, and BC Spokes. Following an opening march, there will be: Indigenous guest speakers; cultural performances by local Indigenous dancers, drummers, and artists; orange shirt painting; over 50 Indigenous and local vendors and artisans; a community Art Project; and more.

In honour of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (Sep 30), join us for a day of cultural experiences and reflection, led by MONOVA’s Indigenous Cultural Programmers, Jordan Dawson & Tsawaysia Spukwus.Visitors of all ages will be welcomed to engage in hands-on activities, guided tours, and thoughtful games developed to inspire meaningful dialogue about the history of Indigenous rights.

Films For The National Day Of Truth And Reconciliation From Indigenous Voices
The Polygon Gallery is witnessing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through a selection of films from the National Film Board. These films highlight Indigenous voices and experiences in Canada. They show the continued impact residential schools had on survivors and communities, while also highlighting the reclamation and revitalization of Indigenous communities and culture. The films will be playing on a continuous loop from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Lheidli T'enneh First Nation Commemoration – National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
Join us on September 30 at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park for the community’s main day of learning, reflection, healing, and celebration. Beginning at 12:00 PM, participants can choose between a Guided Reconciliation Walk or a community reading of the 94 Calls to Action. At 2:00 PM, gather for a Ceremony & Celebration of Culture, including a Drum-In for Survivors, moments of reflection, and the voices of Survivors, Sixties Scoop Survivors, and youth. The afternoon will also celebrate Indigenous culture, resilience, and the future through song and dance.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Place des Arts

Join Indigenous artists for a free, public community event on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as they share their personal stories, reflect on their journeys, and showcase their unique artforms. Learn about their artistic practices and create a small art piece to take home as a meaningful reflection of the day.Additionally – Coquitlam Public Library will be at our centre featuring books from their Indigenous Collections and conducting a small craft activity. This event is open to all ages, though children must be accompanied by an adult. Due to limited space and materials, reservations are required — walk-ins will not be accommodated.

Truth and Reconciliation FREE Film Screening
Join us at Trout Lake Community Centre for an afternoon of cinema, reflection, and community as we honor the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We are proud to present a double-feature screening of two powerful National Film Board of Canada (NFB) documentaries that explore Indigenous identity, history, and resilience.
Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot Man (Dir. Sinakson Trevor Solway | 77 mins)
Screening first. An intimate and contemporary exploration of Indigenous masculinity within the Blackfoot Confederacy. Following men and boys ranging from rodeo riders to radio DJs, this film delves into intergenerational healing, vulnerability, and the traditional teaching of Ikkina’pitapiiyissinni (gentleness) to challenge colonial stereotypes.
Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again (Dir. Courtney Montour | 34 mins)
Discover the powerful legacy of Mohawk trailblazer Mary Two-Axe Earley. This documentary uses rich archival footage to follow her two-decade battle against the discriminatory policies of Canada’s Indian Act, which stripped First Nations women of their status for marrying non-Indigenous men.
