In BC, it is more important than ever to know your rights and protections when facing an eviction notice. With tenants facing increasing vulnerability, this vulnerability is heightened for 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

What is an Eviction?

An eviction occurs when a landlord forces a tenant to move out of a rental unit. If your landlord wants to evict you, they must give you an approved notice with an acceptable reason according to the Residential Tenancy Act (“RTAˮ).

Did you know?

BC has the highest rates of Evictions in Canada, with people in BC getting evicted almost twice as often as the rest of Canada.

QMUNITY has developed this booklet as a free, simple guide to know about the types of legal evictions in BC, what to do if you receive a notice, and how to access support.

Please Note:

This booklet explains the law in general. It is not intended to give you legal advice on your particular problem. Each case is different, so please seek legal help for your case.

For legal support with tenancy (unlawful rent increases, challenges with repairs, etc.) and eviction, please email intake@qmunitylegalclinic.ca or call 236-521-0573.
