Pulse Remembrance Day

This year, in 2026, marks one decade since the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, an extreme act of hate against the 2SLGBTQIA+ and Latinx communities.
10 years ago, on June 12th in 2016, one of the deadliest acts of violence was committed against the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the USA. 49 lives were taken by a single gunman, leaving 53 others injured and hundreds of lives irreparably changed forever.
The event at the gay club that night was a celebration of Latin culture. Many of those who were killed were Latinx and part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. At the time, this was the deadliest mass shooting in the United States. Pulse was a safe space for those in the community and this tragic loss is still felt a decade later.
While Pulse Nightclub no longer exists as it closed its doors immediately after the shooting, efforts are underway to build a memorial in its place to honour the victims, their families, and the community as a whole. For updates visit https://www.pulseorlando.org/Memorial.
As we remember this horrific event and honour the lives that were lost on Pulse Remembrance Day, in 2026, this day comes at a time where the community is still under attack. Gender-diverse and trans people continue to face extreme acts of violence and discrimination worldwide. We must continue to fight for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights to safety and dignity.
Take this day to remember and honour those whose lives were lost and forever changed and let it serve as a reminder of the progress that still needs to be made.
